When 1973 Charles is at his everyman point in 10-Men: Days of Future Past, Logan helps him communicate with the 2023 version of himself. This results in an emotional scene where the versions of Charles Xavier played by James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart are able to antipodal with each other.

2023 Charles shows his younger self that it is okay to struggle and to uncertainty one's cocky. He emphasizes that what is nigh important is the power of hope. Even after the destruction and suffering unleashed past the Sentinels and all the losses he has endured, 2023 Charles still has promise that the future tin be saved by going into the past. 1973 Charles comes away from this chat with a renewed understanding of the power of hope and how information technology can positively change the hereafter for anybody.

Charles knows that Logan can be so much more than the man he sees before him. No affair how much they've suffered and continue to suffer, Charles is yet trying to push his student toward beingness a better version of himself.

Later a wonderful dinner and evening at the Munsons' home, Charles tries to go Logan to slow downward, accept a moment, and take it all in. Fifty-fifty when on the run and in the roughshod world in the movie Logan, Charles nevertheless hasn't given upwardly hope. He still believes in the power of small kindnesses, coexistence, peace, and that it's never too late for things to change for the ameliorate.

He believes even when Logan has lost all organized religion. The quote is even more powerful when considering that it is one of the concluding scenes Logan and Charles share together before Charles' tragic death.
